Twinslabs.ai Awarded Innovate UK Grant to Enhance Crowd Safety and Experience at Festivals
8/15/2024
LONDON - TwinLabs.ai, a London-based startup developing an innovative digital twin platform for managing live events and venues, has been awarded a £100,000 grant from Innovate UK, a part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). The funding will be used to enhance the safety and experience of festival-goers across the UK. With music festivals in the UK attracting crowds ranging from 25,000 to 250,000 people, TwinLabs.ai’s AI-powered digital twin platform offers unprecedented visibility and efficiency in monitoring crowd movements, particularly at access points and potential ‘pinch points.’ The solution is designed to simplify the creation and management of digital twins and provide real-time data and insights, which is crucial to managing events, venues, and other dynamic environments. By leveraging AI, IoT and 3D graphics, the platform helps improve safety, increase sustainability and generate new revenue streams. TwinLabs.ai aims to make digital twin technology more accessible by reducing the cost and complexity involved in creating and maintaining digital twins. TwinLabs.ai’s Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer Tim Wade commented, “Over the past few years, and as recently as this past weekend at Boardmasters in Newquay, we’ve seen injuries and incidents at festivals that could have been avoided if event operators had a better understanding of crowd movement. Our digital twin technology addresses this issue by providing critical situational awareness, enabling service personnel to react proactively and prevent potential disasters. “By analyzing how people move within a defined space, event organisers can strategically position critical resources and staff, significantly reducing the risk of crowd surges. Our platform offers a live, dynamic view of the event, allowing for quicker and more informed decision-making,” he added. The startup will allocate the funding to an ongoing pilot program with music festival ticketing specialist Howler, targeting flagship music festivals in the UK. TwinLabs.ai will leverage Howler’s existing ticket and access point data, along with GPS location, IoT sensor, and third-party data, to create a digital blueprint of each festival. The goal is to enhance user safety and improve the overall festival experience. Howler’s Co-Founder & COO, Steve Cuzen, stated, “We’ve partnered with TwinLabs.ai to pilot their new digital twin technology at a festival in the UK this month. Our aim is to improve efficiency at entry points and enhance the overall experience for festival-goers. The insights provided by a digital twin allow us to address potential issues before they escalate. These insights also give the event's organiser critical data points on the flow of customers at critical points of the festival, allowing them to act immediately, ensuring a seamless customer experience. We’re excited to see this solution potentially rolled out across many more UK-based festivals and events in the coming months.” “Live actionable data is a new concept in the festival space and is going to be a game changer for event organisers around the world, and we are excited to be at the forefront of this new revolution with Twinlabs.ai team”, he added. This grant from Innovate UK is part of a £32 million investment into AI-based projects aimed at improving productivity and efficiency across high-growth industries. TwinLabs.ai is one of 200 AI projects backed by the UK government, with the broader goal of stimulating economic growth and enhancing public services.
