Visit Salt Lake’s Annual Dianne Nelson Binger Sales Leadership Award Presented to Karen Staples, Managing Director of Sales for the East Coast Office

SALT LAKE CITY – During Visit Salt Lake’s recent Year in Review and Awards Luncheon on March 16, 2023 at downtown’s new Le Meridien Hotel, Karen Staples, CMP, CASE, managing director of Sales for the East Coast Office, was awarded the 17th annual Dianne Nelson Binger Sales Leadership Award. The annual Dianne Nelson Binger Sales Leadership Award is presented to Visit Salt Lake’s top salesperson in honor of Dianne Binger, a tireless advocate for Salt Lake and the state. Binger exemplified the traits of a successful salesperson and served Visit Salt Lake — then the Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau — and the community for 18 years, becoming President and CEO in 2001. A great leader and mentor, Binger sadly lost her long battle with cancer in March 2005.

During 2022, she assumed additional territory, helped train Suzanne Bajek, National Sales Manager Northeast, brough on Faye Pastor, CMP, National Sales Manager Mid-Atlantic Region and exceeded her own booking goals. She also served this past year as the New York Chapter of PCMA (Professional Convention Managers Association) chair which is practically a full-time job in itself,” said Mark White, chief sales & experience officer. “She’s a shining example of how our seasoned staff continually exemplifies industry leadership. We’re honored to have her on the team.” Staples is responsible for booking all meeting and convention business in the Washington D.C. and northeast regions. Additionally, Karen will continue to serve as the past-chair NYPCMA chair through 2023. “I am so passionate about my work and the contributions this industry makes to impact our world. I am honored to have been chosen for this prestigious award,” said Staples “This is an incredible opportunity to work with a polished team of professionals who daily increases visibility of Salt Lake as the best place to bring their meetings and conventions.” Visit Salt Lake is a private, non-profit corporation responsible for the promotion of Salt Lake as a convention and travel destination.
