Aloft Wilmington at Coastline Center Celebrates Grand Opening
11/30/2021
Wilmington, N.C. – The much-anticipated Aloft Wilmington at Coastline Center is officially open and welcoming guests. The Aloft joins other accommodations and meeting facilities in Wilmington, North Carolina’s Convention District, totaling nearly 900 rooms and suites all located within easy walking distance of the Wilmington Convention Center and connected by the Riverwalk.

Situated along the Cape Fear River in downtown Wilmington, the Aloft has seven stories and 125 rooms. Amenities include a full-service restaurant (Atlantic Restaurant & Wine Loft, slated to open in 2022), ground level bar (WXYZ bar), rooftop bar (aView Rooftop Bistro), specialty coffee and pastry experience (Aloft Coffee Bar), meeting rooms, banquet rooms, guest services, outdoor terraces, a fitness center, service kitchen and an outdoor pool, as well as a 7,000-square-foot ballroom. Guests can host weddings and private events on the rooftop looking out across the scenic Cape Fear River. One of the hotel’s more unique features is a pedestrian- and pet-friendly “Front Yard.” The outdoor space offers seating, a fire pit and music, and it is connected to WXYZ bar for outdoor beverage service.

Aloft

The new Aloft incorporates the façade of a historic Romanesque-style building into its design. It is connected to the 100-year-old historic Coastline Center, which was renovated as part of the project. The historic building now houses the hotel’s expansive lobby and an additional 3,000 square feet of meeting space, showcasing high ceilings, exposed brick walls and the building’s original wooden beams. The Coastline Center in downtown Wilmington was constructed in the late 19th century for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad (ACL) and was used as its headquarters from the early 1900s to 1960s. The restoration and conversion of the ACL to the Center began in 1989; it preserved the historic character of the building while providing all the services and amenities necessary for today’s guests and events.

“The Aloft Wilmington at Coastline Center blends historic charm with modern services and amenities, just like Wilmington’s riverfront setting, so we are especially excited to add the new property to our Convention District offerings,” said Kim Hufham, president and CEO of the Wilmington and Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau. “As meetings and events begin to return, we are well positioned to fill the demand for groups looking for less crowded destinations, an abundance of outdoor activities and open space, and venues that offer outdoor meeting and event space.”

A transformation of Wilmington’s riverfront is well underway. Recent renovations, openings and future developments in Wilmington include multiple hotels, restaurants and retail, with more under development, plus an event pier and marina, all of which come together to create a campus-like environment for meeting and event attendees. One of the most anticipated projects, Live Oak Bank Pavilion at Riverfront Park, opened this summer. Located near the Wilmington Convention Center, this urban green space takes advantage of Cape Fear River views and is connected by the downtown Riverwalk. The park’s largest feature is an open-air music venue managed by Live Nation.

The Aloft Wilmington at Coastline Center is located at located at 501 Nutt Street. The property is owned and operated by Poteat Hospitality (Laurinburg, N.C.). Clancy & Theys (Raleigh, N.C.) was the general contractor on the project.

It is currently home to multiple hotels, restaurants and retail, with more under development, plus an event pier, marina and riverfront park, all of which come together to create a campus-like environment for meeting and event attendees.
