Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority Announces New Convention Facility Hires
8/9/2018
The Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority (RSCVA) today announced two new hires on the heels of the Authority’s recent deal with SMG to take over management of the area’s meetings and convention facilities. Kelly Carr has been appointed general manager for SMG-contracted facilities in northern Nevada, and Dante Nicastro has been brought on as the northern Nevada General Manager for SAVOR, SMG’s food and beverage division. In his new role, Carr is responsible for overseeing operations and management of the Reno-Sparks Convention Center (RSCC), Reno Events Center (REC), National Bowling Stadium (NBS) and the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center (RSLEC). With more than 14 years of experience working as an SMG employee, Carr comes to Reno Tahoe from Syracuse, N.Y., where he was the general manager of the Oncenter, which recently hosted the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships. Carr also has more than a decade of sales and marketing experience, primarily related to other SMG-managed facilities. “Kelly not only has extensive facilities management experience, but he also has a history and familiarity with one of Reno Tahoe’s most important clients,” said RSCVA President and CEO Phil DeLone. “We could not have asked SMG to find a more appropriate and tenured executive for this position, and I’m excited to welcome him to the destination.” As General Manager for SAVOR, Nicastro is responsible for overseeing food and beverage operations primarily for the Reno-Sparks Convention Center (RSCC), Reno Events Center (REC), National Bowling Stadium (NBS) and the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center (RSLEC).With nearly three decades of management experience in the food and beverage industry, Nicastro was most recently SAVOR’s assistant general manager at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill. Nicastro holds an MBA from Johnson & Wales University, with a focus in Hospitality Administration/Management. “The importance of quality dining experiences at meetings, conventions and events cannot be overstated,” said RSCVA President and CEO Phil DeLone. “Dante’s education and professional background make him the perfect candidate to lead the food and beverage programs at Reno Tahoe’s premier venues, and I couldn’t be more pleased that he is a part of our SMG team.” About Reno Tahoe Reno Tahoe is a dynamic, four-season resort destination in a spectacular natural setting – where America’s largest alpine lake meets “The Biggest Little City in the World.” Here, genuine Western heritage and hospitality are served up alongside a region in the midst of an exciting transformation, offering travelers world-class attractions, outdoor adventure and an annual calendar of cultural, culinary and sporting events.
