Experience Design -- Creating Compelling Exhibit and Event Themes
Previously titled "Creating Innovative Exhibit and Event Experiences"

Poorly executed themes (like those in so-called "themed restaurants") have tarnished this experience design tool as a crucial technique for creating compelling experiences. Properly understood and executed, themes play a vital role as THE organizing principle for everything being orchestrated, ensuring engagement with customers and prospects. In this session, author Jim Gilmore will share:
 •  Methods for conceptualizing and employing compelling themes
 •  A simple checklist for managing environmental and behavioral cues
 •  A tool for designing for all five senses
 •  A framework for mixing in memorabilia (versus mere giveaway tchotchkes)
CTSM Candidates with 5 or more years of experience may take this session in place of certain five-digit required sessions, with prior approval.

Jim Gilmore, co-founder, Strategic Horizons LLP, is co-author of "The Experience Economy: Competing for Time, Attention, and Money," "Authenticity: What Consumers Really Want," and author of "Look: A Practical Guide for Improving Your Observational Skills." He teaches in the Design & Innovation Department of the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.
