Out on a Limb

Launched in 1966 with 331 exhibitors, EuroShop soon became the retail industry's foremost trade fair for everything from store design to visual merchandising. Initially held at Germany's Messe Düsseldorf every two years, the show moved to a triennial schedule in 1975, reflecting the industry's three-year cycle for innovations to run their course. Now attracting 2,300 exhibitors and 113,000 visitors, EuroShop has often balanced commerce and the cutting edge with exhibits such as this 1972 stand for Adel Rootstein Inc.'s mannequins echoing avant-garde artists Dali and de Chirico.
