Over-Arching Ideas
A ceiling structure that covers your entire floor plan is a great way to anchor your space and provide a visual beacon for attendees. But while an expansive ceiling might blow attendees' minds, it could also blow your budget. So consider one of these comparatively small, creative overhead elements instead. They'll still help brand your space and attract attendee attention, but at a fraction of the cost of a full-on roof. By Linda Armstrong

Calling all Attendees
Exhibitor: AT&T Inc.
Show: Oracle Open World
Design: Mauk Design, San Francisco, 415-243-9277, www.maukdesign.com

Hoping to bring AT&T Inc.'s brand to life, Mauk Design opted for this glowing, contact-lens-shaped circle to accent the space and provide an eye-catching element. The dynamic fabric disc integrates animated LED lights that shine through the fabric and create a beacon to attract passersby.

Mirror, Mirror Overhead
Exhibitor: Hargrove Inc.
Show: EXHIBITOR Show
Design: Hargrove Inc., Lanham, MD, 301-306-9000, www.hargroveinc.com

A little vanity isn't necessarily a bad thing. In conjunction with Hargrove Inc.'s "Image Obsession" theme, designers dangled more than 50 framed mirrors over its space. The square and oblong mirrors drew attendees' eyes to the skies and their feet to the booth.

Bio Tube
Exhibitor: Abbott Laboratories
Show: Digestive Disease Week
Design: Derse Inc., Milwaukee, 800-562-0408, www.derse.com

Traditionally, pharmaceutical exhibits are about as whimsical as a Senate hearing. But Abbott Laboratories breaks with tradition. A tube of yellow transparent scrim forms an enclosure for a secondary suspended element representing Crohn's disease and the exhibitor's treatment for it.

Ice, Ice, Baby
Exhibitor: Elements Exhibits LLC
Show: EXHIBITOR Show
Design: Elements Exhibits LLC, North Las Vegas, 702-651-0616, www.elements-exhibits.com

To complement an ice-related theme, Elements Exhibits LLC created this overhead display made to look like a jumble of various-size cubes. Suspended over the exhibit's reception desk, the Plexiglas ice cubes add a touch of whimsy, while reinforcing the exhibit's chilly motif.

Old Meets New
Exhibitor: Sharp Electronics Corp.
Show: International Consumer Electronics Show
Design: Thinc Design, New York, 212-741-3844, www.thincdesign.com

This low-tech structure offers a touch of the unexpected for Sharp Electronics Corp. Designers suspended six tensioned-fabric, donut-shaped discs from overhead truss and dropped myriad bare, white light bulbs through their "donut holes." Simple, lightweight, and sexy.

Totally Cubular
Exhibitor: Golla
Show: International Consumer Electronics Show
Design: Golla, Helsinki, Finland, 358-9-622-6880, www.golla.com

This chandelier-inspired element from Finnish bag manufacturer Golla is more than just an overhead accent that helps define the company's space. It's also a dangling product display, as it's made of 55 clear acrylic cubes, each containing dozens of Golla's colorful bags.
