EXHIBITOR Announces International Panel Judging the 2023 ISE Stand Design Awards at Integrated Systems Europe Expo

ROCHESTER MN – EXHIBITOR magazine is proud to announce the jury of international exhibit-design experts that will be judging the finalists in the 2023 ISE Stand Design Awards at Integrated Systems Europe, the largest AV systems integration show in the world, taking place in Barcelona Jan. 31 through Feb. 3.

Now in its sixth year, the program is managed solely by EXHIBITOR magazine, an award-winning print and online magazine featuring best practices for trade show marketing. Every ISE stand will be automatically entered into the free competition and judged on site.

Jorge Alves, founder and lab master, Mind Trooper, Lisbon
Jorge Alves has a proven track record within retail design, concept development, equipment design, and art direction. After having worked in various communication and design groups in Portugal, such as Euro RSCG Design, Bates, Ativism, and Palexpo, Alves founded his own design boutique, Mind Trooper. In just 11 years the brand has evolved into a robust factory and started its globalization process.

In addition to securing various national awards, including the Best Integrated Campaign in the 2008 European Best Event Awards and being named a finalist in the EuroShop Awards in Dusseldorf, he has also juried EXHIBITOR Magazine’s Expo 2017 Awards. His meticulous eye for finishes and production details and his knowledge of how materials behave in the environment make him a reference expert in Portugal, providing consultancy and production support to leading brands in Madrid and Paris.

Victor Cavaller, founder and CDO, Entertainment Development, Barcelona
Victor Cavaller is the founder and CDO of Entertainment Development, a theme entertainment design and production firm with offices in Barcelona and Hong Kong. Cavaller has more than 20 years of experience producing themed experiences such as the Ski Dubai Cold Play Area and Ice Age Adventure Ride, both of which were Thea Award-winning projects. He is passionate about developing stories that engage audiences and facilitate positive, memorable experiences. At the moment, Cavaller is producing the Place Vendome Qatar FEC, a Popmart experience in Beijing, as well as a leisure center in Palestine.

Martin Henderson, technical manager, BRC Imagination Arts, Edinburgh, UK
Martin Henderson has 20 years of experience in technical integration as a project manager for one of the UK’s largest electrical contractors. His work and knowledge spans from large commercial buildings to theatres and large-investment visitor attractions. As a technical manager at BRC Imagination Arts, Henderson is a pillar of the BRC team that oversees technical install and integration on sites. His role places him at the forefront of production teams making design decisions that amplify the creative vision and operations. His project portfolio at BRC includes brands such as Caol Ila Distillery, Talisker Distillery, and Johnnie Walker Princes Street.

Julia Höhn, senior designer, ET Global GmbH, Frankfurt, Germany
Julia Höhn has worked as a designer with ET Global GmbH for nearly 15 years. Currently a senior designer with the firm, she strives to build a global team by creating common design processes and standards for the groups in the United States, Europe, and Asia. She also works to strengthen the connection of all subsidiaries with the European headquarters. While she excels in both in-person and digital spaces, current projects include virtual showrooms, online events, apps, social-media integration, and webpage design. Höhn holds a master of science in architecture from the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz, Germany.

Carmelo Zappulla, CEO and head of design, External Reference, Barcelona
Italian-born architect Carmelo Zappulla is the founder and managing director of the Barcelona-based architecture studio External Reference, which develops international work at different scales, including exhibition spaces, architecture, urban environments, interiors, and product designs. Additionally, Zappulla is currently director of the Master in Experiential Design at LCI Barcelona and professor of architectural design at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalunya.

His research into geometric patterns and complex morphologies has allowed him to explore new formal repertoires and constructive solutions in the world of digital fabrication. His latest project is WOW, a retail concept of more than 5.000m2 in Madrid's Gran Vía. WOW surprises with its eight unique floors dedicated to fashion, retail, and restaurants and offers a theatrical, immersive, and dynamic setting.

Among External Reference’s numerous sole and joint projects are the exhibition design of the Spanish Pavilion at EXPO Dubai 2020; the new concept and interior design for the executive floors of Sberbank's headquarters in Moscow; the Moritz Store and Casa Moritz gastronomic spaces; and the Alkimia restaurant in Barcelona. In addition, a new urban intervention will be unveiled at the Barceloneta promenade: a sculptural staircase that will complete the urban enhancement of the area around the iconic W hotel.

In 2011, Zappulla was a recipient of the New Italian Blood award, being named the "best Italian architect under 36 years old." Among myriad awards, External Reference received the 2019 Architecture Master Prize for small companies in the category of Multidisciplinary Interior Design.

Stands will be organized into four size-based categories: Small (30 sqm or fewer), Medium (31 – 69 sqm), Large (70 – 249 sqm), and XL (250 sqm or more). Up to 10 finalists in each category will be selected, notified on the show floor, and presented with a plaque on or before Wednesday, 1 February.

One winner per category will be announced and presented with a trophy at the Awards Ceremony on Thursday, 2 February. All four winners will also receive Main Event Pass Scholarships to EXHIBITORLIVE 2023, a total value of $10,380. Winners are also eligible for a 25-percent discount on any EXHIBITOR eTrak session, which must be purchased by 15 March, 2023.
