Sponsors of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) Anticipate Opportunity-Packed 2021 Convention in Milwaukee
9/28/2021
New York, NY – The sponsors of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW)’s annual convention, including Alabama Tourism Department, the Japan National Tourism Organization, CityPASS, the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau and TravMedia are anticipating an information packed five days. They recognize the meaningfulness of face-to-face meetings, the vitality of in-person experiences and the important visibility that sponsors receive from top-tier travel media at the SATW Convention.

Everyone is gearing up for a come-back year and there is a lot to look forward to in the year of travel ahead. The SATW Convention is a substantial opportunity to prepare for press trips, research opportunities and network with journalists and sponsors.

Larry Bleiberg, the president of SATW, said “SATW is grateful for our sponsors every year and this year is especially important as travel is recovering from the pandemic. (Last year’s convention was virtual.) Travel writers are raring to get out on the road again and sponsors will benefit from this effective networking opportunity and being able to tell their stories.”

“The Alabama Tourism Department is proud to support the 2021 Society of American Travel Writers conference. For more than 60 years, SATW has been inspiring travel through responsible journalism. As a sponsor, we are showing our commitment and dedication to SATW whose membership fosters responsible journalism and invigorating storytelling,” said Lee Sentell, Director, Alabama Tourism Department.

From the moment the writers hit the ground, they will be immersed in face-to-face meetings, tours of the host city Milwaukee, professional development and fertile pitching sessions with public relations organizations. TravMedia is serving as the sponsor of the online media room facilitating the editors’ pitching sessions and the one-to-one meetings between the SATW public relations associates and the media members.

“The Japan National Tourism Organization is proud to be sponsoring the Media Marketplace at the 2021 SATW Convention. During the pandemic we have seen the enormous interest of travelers and travel media in Japan and their eagerness not only to cover our many attractions, but also to come and visit us as soon as borders open. The people of Japan will welcome you with open arms,” Michiaki Yamada, Executive Director, JNTO, NY

Deborah Wakefield, Vice President, Media Relations at CityPASS, said, “Being an SATW sponsor gives CityPASS terrific visibility with top-tier travel media. I can’t tell you how many productive, long-term relationships with writers and editors got their start after a journalist approached me to say thanks for being a convention sponsor.”

“VISIT Milwaukee couldn’t be more excited to host SATW this October,” says VISIT Milwaukee president and CEO Peggy Williams-Smith. “Over the last four years, our team has helped plan an amazing convention that will show off the city’s diversity, its fascinating history, its ability to innovate, and the amazing amenities that make it such a fantastic place to visit and live.” Visit Milwaukee knows the importance of tourism to its city and environs. Each year, tourism supports over 52,000 full-time jobs and brings in nearly $6 billion to the Milwaukee community.

“There are still opportunities for sponsoring the Milwaukee Convention,” said Marla Schrager, SATW’s Executive Director. We are also already planning ahead for the future conventions and chapter meetings in the U.S. and abroad. As our membership grows in breadth and depth, the opportunities grow in tandem and become more valuable for the sponsoring organizations.”

Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau is not only looking forward to sponsoring Milwaukee but also to hosting the Central States Chapter next year. “We have been a part of SATW for years, and we’re excited to roll out the red carpet for the Central States Chapter in February 2022,” said Stacy Brown, president of the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau. “We understand the economic impact that this conference will have on the meetings market, but the greatest value is the positive media exposure. We know that the media will love our community’s rich heritage, amazing food, and fascinating culture, and we can’t wait to showcase it. We are going to provide them with the highest level of service and hospitality that we are known for.”
