Located in the Sustainability District of Expo 2020 Dubai, the Montenegro Pavilion marks the first time the country has ever participate in a World Expo with its own pavilion. As such, designers wanted to share the country’s culture, as well as the opportunities represented there in a way that would stand out among the 192 national pavilions.
“Blessed by Nature” is the simple yet authentic concept around which Simmetrico developed the pavilion. That theme is meant to reflect the identity of a country that is small in size but contains a large variety of natural resources and demonstrates careful attention toward them. Under this theme, the pavilion became an enveloping environment, which immediately transfers visitors into an idyllic, natural atmosphere.
Right at the entrance, guests are welcomed by sounds of nature and by sights of the pavilion’s main installation: a forest of lights enlivening the entire exhibition and serving as the pulsating heart of the pavilion. Comprising 189 Plexiglas pipes, the changing colors of this poetic installation are synchronized with images shown via a large, central projection, representing a window that enables visitors look out on Montenegro’s most evocative landscapes. The colors shift, recreating the transitions from sunrise to sunset.
The entire experience unfolds all around the forest. Along it, a series of interactive installations engage visitors by letting them actively consume various types of content that introduces them to Montenegro, educates them about its natural resources, and inspires them to consider Montenegro as both a tourist destination and an investment opportunity.
