Events Industry Council Recognizes 2024 FICP Annual Conference for Achieving Sustainable Event Standards Certification

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Events Industry Council announced today that the 2024 FICP Annual Conference, hosted by the Financial & Insurance Conference Professionals (FICP) in Denver from November 10-13, achieved silver level certification to the EIC Sustainable Event Standards. This is the first EIC certification for FICP, a community of 1,500 financial services and insurance industry meetings professionals and hospitality partners from across North America.

“Achieving this certification is a testament to our team’s dedication and collective effort,” said Ellie Hurley, SECP, FICP director of events. “I’m honored to have led this initiative, but it would not have been possible without the full support of our team—from FICP staff to volunteers and our partners, including Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel and Visit Denver. This accomplishment truly showcases the power of collaboration and shared commitment to sustainability."

As the premier event for FICP, the annual conference brings together nearly 700 F&I meetings professionals and hospitality partners for engaging education from expert speakers and inspirational networking experiences. The EIC Sustainable Event Standards were referenced for all stages of the planning process for the 2024 FICP Annual Conference.

The EIC Sustainable Event Standards were created through a global collaborative process with participation from subject matter experts in all sectors. They provide a framework for collaboration and a strong focus on guidance and metrics so that event professionals at all stages of their sustainability journey have the support needed to implement and measure sustainable practices.

The standards specify performance criteria in the areas of organizational management, marketing, communications and engagement, climate action, water management, materials and circularity, supply chain management, diversity, equity and inclusion, accessibility and social impact. To date, more than 300 professionals have participated in the review of the standards. The venue standard is one of several comprehensive standards for environmentally sustainable events.

"By achieving this recognition, FICP is not only advancing its own sustainability goals but also setting an inspiring example for the meetings and events industry. The Alliance for Audited Media, a not-for-profit auditing organisation, performed the independent third-party certification of FICP’s compliance with the Event Organiser standard.
