For the 2019 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. wanted to demonstrate how its various household products meld together electronically while also highlighting its appliances' new finishes and showing off its premium Chef Collection. "To accomplish all that, we needed to construct experiences that would excite KBIS attendees," said Todd Dailey, vice president of creative for Visual Communications Inc., the firm that designed and fabricated Samsung's exhibit.
      Curb Appeal
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. created a dream home away from home with its 11,200- square-foot exhibit. In the Connected Home section, staff demonstrated how Samsung technology links stoves, televisions, and more into a seamless braid of communication. Visitors then strolled through a faux forest containing appliances with earth-toned finishes.
Booth visitors typically started at a mixed-media presentation positioned on an outside corner of the exhibit. Here, live performers and prerecorded actors primed visitors with background material on Samsung's Connected Living tech that links devices into a kind of electronic ecosystem. Afterward, docents led guests into the Connected Home space, where they demonstrated how the technology works. For instance, with the push of a button, the football game appearing on the TV in the living room shifted to the monitor-equipped refrigerator in the kitchen without missing a single play.

Exiting the section, guests passed into the Tuscan Stainless Steel display showcasing Samsung's new earth-toned appliance finishes. Underscoring the inspiration found in Mother Nature was a 20-foot-tall faux maple tree poised over a terrarium-like floor. "The tree is killer," said one Exhibit Design Awards judge. "Positioning it in the center of the booth gave people a sense of awe and discovery."

Finally, attendees advanced into the Chef Collection space, which displayed Samsung's high-end appliances. The area's design, including a custom raised floor and a printed fabric overheard crafting the illusion of a woodslat ceiling, reinforced the products' upscale quality. With thousands touring the exhibit, it was clear there was no place like Samsung's "home." E
