What's Up, Dock?
Netherlands-based yacht builder Damen Yachting BV (dba Amels) envisioned a temporary pavilion that reflected the company's personal approach to business. It scored the equivalent of an America's Cup victory with designer CAS Exhibition Partners B.V., which came up with an inspired outdoor space that exceeded practical and aesthetic expectations for the 2023 Dubai International Boat show, which took place at Dubai Harbor.
Showboating
Walking into the Amels exhibit was like entering a temporary beach pavilion in the Netherlands. Dressed in warm woods with an elegant vibe, the space was further outfitted with display cases showcasing detailed models of the company's luxury yachts.
The show site posed a few challenges, including uneven ground surfaces and fluctuating air temperatures that necessitated meticulous condensation control. These issues were remedied by a special podium design that effected a stable, level floor. And the condensation was kept in check via additional hydro isolation, which provided a practical, non-intrusive fix. Stanislav Khilchenkov, general manager of Messe.ae, said, "The Amels project held great significance to our team and we poured our passion and dedication into every aspect of its realization."

The concept drew its inspiration from the Netherlands's temporary beach pavilions, where comfort, opulence, and transitory tenure are prevailing themes. Wood flooring and walls suggested casual vacation-esque ambience, while a well-conceived lighting concept illuminated the pavilion day and night, attracting the attention of show attendees even during the brightest hours. "I'd move into the booth tomorrow," said one judge, no doubt echoing the thoughts of foot-weary visitors eyeing the wicker seating.

Thoughtfully placed display cases offered guests a persuasive representation of what Amels does so well. Each held an elaborate model of a yacht, whose full-scale counterpart would no doubt lend fresh perspective to an otherwise ordinary day. E
