Overland Park Convention Center
Offering the charm of a Midwest town and the cultural amenities of a big city, Overland Park, KS, is a nationally ranked suburb on the outskirts of Kansas City. And the Overland Park Convention Center is an all-encompassing event resource that regularly outperforms its modest size, earning it the title of Best Small Convention Center in North America in EXHIBITOR's 2022 Centers of Excellence. The 262,000-square-foot venue features 60,000 square feet of exhibit space with a connected 25,000-square-foot ballroom. In addition, the venue offers one of the fastest Wi-Fi systems in the industry backed by a 10GB infrastructure and redundant fiber internet services, all at no cost to exhibitors and guests.
WHERE TO SLEEP
With more than 1,000 rooms within walking distance and 20 hotels within 3 miles of the venue, finding affordable lodging is no problem. It doesn't get more convenient than staying at the attached Sheraton. Or consider the Courtyard by Marriott or Hilton Garden Inn, both of which are a stone's throw from the convention center.
WHAT TO EAT
Finding a quick bite inside the OPCC is a cinch thanks to its concessions and the Cyber Cafe, but Kansas City is truly renowned for its barbecue. If that gets your mouth watering, grab a casual meal at the nearby Jack Stack Barbecue. For fine fare with private dining, check out Bristol Seafood Grill just over a mile away.
HOW TO GET THERE
The OPCC is located 35 minutes south of Kansas City International Airport. A one-way taxi trip will cost about $78, and shuttle rides can be reserved starting at $70 (www.supershuttle.com). Uber and Lyft offer cheaper options beginning at about $40. For those driving, the venue is centrally located off I-35 and I-70. The OPCC offers free parking and has approximately 1,000 spaces. The OPCC is GBAC Star accredited. The venue is a Sensory Inclusive Certified facility with staff trained to assist guests with autism, dementia, and other neurological conditions. The OPCC has eight loading docks suitable for standard commercial trailers and two drive-in ramps with direct access to the exhibit hall. All rigging is installed and managed by OPCC certified riggers. Multistory exhibits are limited to one person per 15 square feet of floor space, and the maximum occupancy must be posted. Food and beverage services are provided exclusively by the OPCC. No outside food or beverages are allowed. Food and beverage samples cannot exceed 2 oz., and exhibitors must submit a temporary food service application at least two weeks prior to the event. Exhibitors are allowed to keep only a one-day supply of literature, giveaways, etc., in their booths. The OPCC does not allow open-carry weapons in the facility even with a permit.
