    Qatar Pavilion
    Concept/Design/Fabrication: Cityneon Middle East LLC

    Expo 2017 Awards: People's Choice
    Qatar Pavilion
Inside the Qatar pavilion, guests rambled through a meandering passageway bordered by black-and-white graphics colored with projection mapping as if by a giant, invisible hand. One stretch spun the tale of Qatar's storied "Arabian Nights" past, then segued smoothly into the nation's oil-rich but forward-thinking present.
In the Technologies of the Future area, a series of kiosks and massive wall-mounted screens displayed content about Qatar's efforts to produce renewable energies. The pavilion's last section, Human Energy is Our Focus, included a video tower positioned between a bank of four touchscreen monitors that sparkled with bolts of simulated energy to mime that very people power. On the touchscreens, guests selected their favorite approaches for making a Greener planet, including "Stop global warming," and "Spearhead innovation." As they chose, the floor danced with the decorative lacing of arabesques displayed in primary colors from wall-mounted fixtures.

    Honorable Mention
    Thailand Pavilion
Created by Index Creative Village Public Co. Ltd. and Design 103 International Ltd., the Thailand Pavilion attracted scores with anime-bright hues and cartoon-like characters spread over three halls. In one hall, an LED screen looped footage of Thailand's verdant landscape and culture accented by live presentations, while another hall featured a 3-D movie telling the story of Pa-lang, an animatronic ear of corn that would herald a new era of bioenergy.
