"Brains first and then hard work."
- Eeyore, "Pooh's Little Instruction Book"

hile EXHIBITOR strives to fill every issue with examples of brains and hard work in action, once a year we devote an issue to a handful of the industry's smartest marketers. Thus, we give you EXHIBITOR Magazine's 15th Annual All-Star Awards, honoring the industry's brightest minds and most effective worker bees - each of which would no doubt make Eeyore proud.

Take Jerry Samuels, CTSM, manager of conventions for Bayer HealthCare. After inheriting everything from a dated booth and low lead counts to a critical product launch, he crafted an ingenious integrated program that increased leads by 442 percent. Jan Aument, CTSM, trade show coordinator with BASF SE, also employed clever marketing to generate remarkable results at the World of Concrete show. Devising a BASF-sponsored contest to honor construction crews, she garnered unprecedented awareness for the company and fostered relationships with attendees and show organizers.

Meanwhile, our other two wise winners, David Althaus, manager of events and promotions for John Deere Construction & Forestry Co., and Deanna Aamodt, manager of global event management services at Thomson Reuters Corp., turned in serious returns of their own. While Althaus created a product-launch strategy that attracted tens of thousands of ConExpo-Con/Agg attendees to the John Deere booth, Aamodt consolidated planning and properties for 1,000 events across 21 countries, ultimately decreasing her exhibit-marketing budget by 28 percent.

So please join us in congratulating some of the brightest bulbs in the exhibit and event industry. Hailed by judges as "innovative," "strategic," and "downright brilliant," these four marketers offer endless ideas that can be adapted to almost any program.E
