Irving Convention Center Donates Kitchens and Staff Time to Feed Fellow Hospitality Workers in Need
6/10/2020
Even in the midst of the coronavirus shutdown, the kitchens of one of North Texas’ premier meetings destinations remain a hub of activity, albeit with a different purpose – to help feed the area’s furloughed hospitality industry workers. Each week, the culinary staff of the Irving Convention Center (ICC) take to the facility’s immense kitchens to prepare 300 free meal kits – each containing breakfast and dinner to feed a family of four. The kits are then distributed each Saturday from the ICC’s loading dock to displaced workers who have pre-registered through the non-profit staffmeal.org. ICC Executive Chef Eduardo Alvarez, a decorated veteran of the food and beverage industry, oversees the efforts. “This is one way we in the hospitality industry can support our own during these challenging times, and we are proud to offer our state-of-the-art kitchens and the expertise of our culinary team to partner with staffmeal.org in this effort,” said ICC Executive Director Maura Gast. “Chef Alvarez and his colleagues are known for the innovation, variety and quality they bring to the table at all ICC events, and they approach these meals with the same passion and standards of excellence.” Gast notes that all ingredients for the meals are also donated by local suppliers. The meals are free but must be requested in advance at www.staffmeal.org. For more information, please visit www.irvingtexas.com. Contact: questions@exhibitormagazine.com |
