Cardio Concept
When it comes to health-care technology, a product that combines cloud-accessed medical imaging with artificial intelligence is about as avant-garde as it gets. That's why this futuristic yet functional design would have been the perfect prescription for Arterys Inc., whose AI solutions offer predictive analysis and imaging evaluation to aid in diagnoses. While the pioneering design was never realized, it won over judges, who felt it "pushed boundaries" and bestowed it with a Bronze Award in the Conceptual Design category.
Organic Matters
Arterys Inc. passed on this futuristic design, but judges gave it a thumbs up. Comprising two interconnected tension-fabric pods, the concept drew inspiration from the bio-organic shapes of the human body.
Conceived by ChrisWendel Design + Communication, this 20-by-50-foot exhibit was born of Arterys' desire for an exhibit with a bio-organic vibe that housed six demo stations, a meeting room, and a reception area. The resulting concept featured two interconnected tension-fabric pods inspired by anatomical forms found in the human body. Ventricle-like openings on the tops of the pods acted as skylights for the metallic-gold interior spaces that strikingly contrasted with the bright white of the exterior shells.

On the left side of the footprint, one pod functioned as a semi-enclosed conference room where overhead ventricles fitted with a rear-projection membrane created an on-theme presentation surface. Meanwhile, the pod on the right housed two demo areas featuring flatscreen monitors and cloud-inspired lighting referencing Arterys' image- and data-retrieval capabilities.

"Based on Arterys' RFP, we offered several design iterations," said designer Chris Wendel. "Ultimately, it came down to this design and a more traditional concept. In the end, Arterys went the conventional route." Still, this inspiring design got its well-deserved time in the spotlight – or more specifically, in EXHIBITOR magazine. E
