New ECOpark Exhibit Segment to Focus on Sustainability

Sustainability and energy efficiency will be leading topics at EuroShop 2011, The Global Retail Trade Fair, and eco friendly solutions for the retail sector on display in all 15 halls will include energy-saving refrigeration and lighting, environmentally friendly shop-window mannequins, and “Green” store design. With the new ECOpark, EuroShop will for the first time have a special exhibit segment exclusively on the topic of sustainability. The ECOpark will be organized in cooperation with the EHI Retail Institute while the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) is a joint venture partner. Exhibitors from various industry sectors will present the latest in energy efficiency and sustainability from February 26 - March 2, 2011 at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany.

IngSoft from Nuremberg, Germany, will offer special software solutions for controlling energy in retail. “IngSoft InterWatt allows the recording and reporting of wide-ranging heterogeneous energy usage data and creates a homogeneous, well-structured overview. This makes IngSoft InterWatt particularly attractive for bigger chains. Through the ECOpark, we want to show visitors how they can use our software solution InterWatt for successful long-term energy control, so that they can save resources and at the same time permanently lower their costs,” stated  Karsten Reese, Managing Director at Ingsoft GmbH.

The Austrian company betecs GmbH will focus on simple and effective energy optimization with the use of existing freezer display cabinets. “Our aim at the ECOpark is to demonstrate the enormous savings potential that is possible in the deep freeze segment by adding anti-fog freezer film. At the same time, we would like to see such film added on a European-wide scale, as it is a simple and efficient way to save energy,” remarked Maria Leitner from betecs.

The illumination manufacturer Derksen Lichttechnik considers ECOpark as the ideal environment for a presentation of its new energy-efficient projection technology: “Our projection lamps use all the benefits of contemporary LED lamps, i.e. high output, low energy consumption, 30,000 operating hours, noiseless, maintenance-free operation, and the prevention of UV and heat radiation,” explained Markus Kück, Marketing Manager at Derksen’s. He emphasized that energy savings and attractive design are not mutually exclusive: “Thanks to their elegant design and high-quality materials, our LED projectors are aesthetically and economically convincing solutions for the communication of brands and events in retail.”

For three days, the ECOpark will be accompanied by a forum of talks, covering the full range of topics relating to sustainability and energy efficiency in retail. This forum will be held by EHI (the Association of the European Heating Industry) on February 27 and 28. One special highlight of the program will be the focus on lighting.  A new guide called “Good Lighting for Shops – Attractive and Efficient” will be presented at the ECOpark Forum by the Association for the Promotion of Good Lighting, a subsidiary of the Central German Association of the Electrical and Electronics Industry. The presentation will be given by several EuroShop exhibitors which have contributed to the guide, such as Ansorg, Bäro, Erco, Osram, and Phillips.

Another central focus of the forum program will be on control systems in facility management. The recent EHI study “Energy Management in Retail” shows that energy consumption can be substantially reduced in this sector.

On March 1, 2011, a range of talks will be held by members of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). To promote sustainable construction, the DGNB uses a certification system for environment-friendly, energy-saving, and economically efficient buildings as well as for buildings with optimized user convenience. Since October 2009, the DGNB has been offerings its system to commercial buildings and has thus also established sustainable construction in the retail sector. As a joint venture partner of the ECOpark, the DGNB will provide important stimuli for retailers at EuroShop 2011 through its own professional talks and the presentation of various certified projects.
