EuroShop FAQ

What is EuroShop, and why do 100,000 visitors (including numerous U.S. exhibit-industry professionals) flock to Dusseldorf, Germany, every three years to attend it? Get the answers to these questions and many more in this EuroShop FAQ.

Q: What is EuroShop?
Hailed as the "Global Retail Trade Fair," EuroShop covers all things retail related, such as store fitting, store design, sales promotion, visual merchandising, and information technology. Plus, it offers two full halls dedicated to exhibit and event design/construction.

Q: When and where is EuroShop held?
EuroShop is held every three years at Messe Dusseldorf, the main convention center in Dusseldorf, Germany. In 2011, the show begins on February 26 and closes on March 2, with the show halls open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Located just off the Rhine River, Messe Dusseldorf offers 17 exhibition halls within 19 different buildings. Halls range in size from 13,000 square feet to 82,000 square feet. Positioned near the western border of Germany, Dusseldorf is a short train ride from Amsterdam and Paris, and its airport offers easy international connections to the rest of the world. Dusseldorf's prime location and well-known shopping opportunities, along with Messe Dusseldorf's seemingly unlimited space, draw more than 1.5 million trade show visitors per year.

Q: How is the show divided between various retail and exhibition segments?
EuroShop is divided into the following four independent segments.
• EuroConcept – Exhibits in this area offer solutions in shop fitting, store furnishings, lighting, flooring, architecture and store design, and refrigeration systems.
• EuroSales – This segment offers all facets of visual marketing, sales promotion, and point-of-sale (POS) marketing.
• EuroCIS – The high-tech sector of EuroShop, EuroCIS offers information technology and retail-security technology.
• EuroExpo – The European version of EXHIBITOR Show, EuroExpo offers solutions in exhibit construction and design, as well as event management.

Q: How many attendees and exhibitors is EuroShop 2011 expected to draw?
EuroShop 2011 is expected to attract more than 1,900 exhibitors from 52 countries, along with more than 100,000 visitors.

Q: How many square feet does the show cover?
Approximately 347,000 square feet of Messe Dusseldorf will be filled with EuroShop exhibits.

Q: Will EXHIBITOR magazine be covering the show?
Several representatives from EXHIBITOR magazine will be on site for EuroShop 2011, including editor Travis Stanton and senior writer Linda Armstrong. Look for our on-site coverage on EXHIBITOR’s EuroShop microsite (www.ExhibitorOnline.com/EuroShop) in late February.

Q: Do any U.S. firms in the exhibit/event industry have exhibits at EuroShop?

• 3D Exhibits
• AGAM Group Ltd.

Q: Why is EuroShop important for U.S. exhibitors?
Many U.S. exhibit and event designers trek to Dusseldorf every three years to not only recharge their creative energies but also to get a heaping helping of exhibit-related inspiration, spot new trends, and discover new products and materials. Recently, the show has also developed a sort of cross-pollination effect, for as more and more U.S. companies display their exhibit- and event-related wares to this show, international exhibition companies are using U.S. products and ideas to pepper their programs with new ideas and materials.

Q: Are there any special exhibitions or events within EuroShop?
This year's show offers several ancillary events/exhibitions within the larger show. Two of the larger offerings are:
• Designer Village – A platform for architects' offices and design studios, the Designer Village allows visitors to gather ideas for the design of future stores and information on the latest trends in display.
• POPAI Village – Here, European and international member companies of Point of Purchase Advertising International (POPAI) are presented jointly.
