beMatrix Partners with Bemidji State University to Mentor Technology, Art & Design Students
beMatrix® has partnered with Bemidji State University (BSU) for the fourth year to celebrate the ideas and mentor the talent of design students in the Technology, Art & Design Department. This assignment allows emerging professionals the opportunity to showcase their design ability to professionals working in the field. The learning objective of this assignment is for students to apply an existing system as part of their exhibit design training in an exercise with real-world constraints.
This year's winners are:
"We always really look forward to seeing the solutions they come up with," said Robert Laarhoven, President, beMatrix® USA, "in past years the creativity has blown us away. It is gratifying to see how much the BSU Alumni on our team love mentoring and giving back."
- 1st place - Kadie Amiot
- 2nd Place - Hannah Sernett
- 3rd Place - Angela Gereri
Professor Sachel Josefson oversees the project, and BSU Graduates Emma Christen and Kyle Lucken from beMatrix® mentor the competition. Emma spent a day at Bemidji State University giving a design workshop to the students to kick off the project and cover the details of the system in order to make this as realistic as possible to what they can expect after graduation.
The BSU students designed a 30' x 30' pop up retail space for a sporting company that utilizes the b62® Frame System. The exhibit should be a safe and functional space that emphasizes: learning, networking, marketing, sales, entertainment, and aesthetics.
In addition to the valuable experience, the three winners of the competition were announced at ExhibitorLIVE! 2018. Prizes include a trip to ExhibitorLIVE! and Atlanta for beMatrix® Partner Training, as well as paid internship opportunities. Other opportunities include standing in BSU's exhibit to show their portfolio, putting “beMatrix® Design Challenge winner” on his or her resume, and being recognized in the beMatrix® monthly newsletter and on social media.
