Profile:
The cornerstone of Washington, DCís downtown renaissance, Walter E. Washington Convention Center is as functional as it is artistically impressive. The 2.3-million-square-foot space is home to meetings, conventions, trade shows, and events of every kind, hosting everything from world leaders meeting in summit and medical professionals attending annual meetings to comic-book-inspired expos and board retreats. The convention center partners with DC Central Kitchen and Capital Area Food Bank, recovering up to 35,000 pounds of food annually, and it recycles an average of 50 pallets per month that are left over from trade show freight deliveries. The venue also boasts the largest digital signage network of its kind in any conference facility in the United States, with more than 200 digital signage displays located throughout the convention center, including a two-story curved video wall at the concourse rotunda, video walls above the exhibit halls, and digital flags in front of the salons.

KEY FEATURES AT A GLANCE

CORE PRINCIPLES
The centerís five guiding principles include respect, professionalism, communication, accountability, and teamwork. They were not developed by a consultant, but rather chosen by the venueís employees who considered what they value most, how they approach clients and guests, and the way they work. These attributes help the facility stand out and contribute to the overall experience of exhibitors, attendees, and event planners.

SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES
In addition to only using environmentally friendly cleaning products and paper products made from recycled fibers, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center is in the process of converting all interior lights to LEDs.

MODERN AESTHETICS
The ultra-modern convention center features impressive architectural details such as towering glass walls, a soaring staircase, and smooth granite floors. Its $4 million public art collection combines sculptures, paintings, and photography. With more than 130 pieces by 93 different artists, it is the districtís largest public collection of art outside of a museum.
